This month, Guernsey local Jack Duquemin took on an incredible challenge in support of our GO100 campaign – swimming nearly four hours across open water to Sark.
Battling cold, choppy seas and shifting currents, Jack set off from St Martin’s Point in Guernsey and made his way to Dixcart Bay on the east coast of Sark, covering a total distance of 14.5km. Alongside him for safety and support was his dad in a kayak, guiding the way.
Jack’s determination and endurance paid off, raising over £1,600 for GO100. These funds will help our charity continue to support islanders facing challenges such as autism, learning difficulties, mental health struggles, or past convictions – giving them the chance to build skills and move into meaningful employment.
Speaking after the swim, Jack said:
“I feel absolutely delighted to have done it. The swim was challenging, but I had a terrific support team including my dad, David. GO does excellent work and I wanted to do what I could to support their campaign.”
GO100’s mission is simple but powerful: to rally 100 local businesses to each raise £1,000. Together, that £100,000 target will make a life-changing difference to islanders who need a pathway into the workplace.
GO chairman Paul Meader praised Jack’s achievement, saying:
“What a fantastic effort from Jack. We can promise that the money he’s raised will go to help people who will really benefit from it.”
We’re hugely grateful to Jack, his family, and his supporters for taking on this challenge – and for showing how community spirit can achieve extraordinary things.
